Favors As Centerpieces

Favors as Centerpieces are a lovely and cost-friendly idea. Your tables will not only be decorated, but your guests will be leaving with a fantastic wedding memory. Guests like to steal the centerpieces anyways ;-) So, make them easy to take home with great vessels.

Try Tea Tin Vases as centerpieces, made of new or vintage containers such as biscuit or tea tins. They will give your table an ornate and old fashioned charm. These unique centerpieces are easy to find at specialty food stores, online or your cupboards! Just add your favorite florals that fit into your wedding scheme or try and match the beautiful colors on the tins.

Another great idea are Herb Potted Pots as Centerpieces. As shown above, these beautiful pots where hand painted by the bride and her mother and filled with scented geraniums, herbs and foliage. Not only will they bring a wonderful scent to your reception party, but your guests that bring them home will remember your big day for months to come.

Enchanted

We had the pleasure in working with Enchanted Florist recently and are in awe of Nisie and her team. They sent us an amazing flower arrangement in February and we are bummed that we didn’t take a picture to share! The team strutted their stuff at the recent Your Wedding Day Magazine event, February’s “The Most Anticipated Event of the Year”. We were one of the six featured coordinators and created the Contemporary Modern Wedding set. Enchanted Florist made our booth come alive with their beautiful display of coral tulips and roses. Big and small centerpieces, mini vases from the ceiling created a faux chandelier, hanging flowers on an amazing water wall, stunning bouquet and mini arrangements. Did I mention we had one week to put this all together? Yeah! You can catch the event’s review and photos in the summer 2010 YWD Magazine. We’ll keep you posted on the newsstand date!

Brown Paper Design

At Beautiful Day, we love seeing things that catch our eye in a new light. Flowers are a true source of inspiration for us. We recently came across Brown Paper Design in Los Angeles and are awe struck with their innovative floral arrangements. Cassandra fell instantly in love with the bowl cut floral centerpieces below. The flowers hanging gently over the edge is so simple, yet so profound. Floral designer and owner Danielle Rowe, creates one of a kind arrangements perfect for any wedding or celebration. She got her company name by reminiscing back to her childhood, when she would create designs on paper bags with her mother. If you love this piece (and each beautiful flower below) you must see all of her inspiring work!

Pretty Peony

Take a look at this little beauty. Peony flowers make for great wedding decor. They give off a vintage, yet sophisticated shabby chic vibe. The added touch of moss around the vase creates a romantic, outdoorsy feel, perfect for a “garden wedding”. This centerpiece would be great for an entry table.

Here some fun facts: There are so many types of Peonies, over 30 species. The most common peony colors are white, pink, red and yellow. Their bloom time is from late spring to mid summer. Peonies are great flowers to plant, their hardy nature allows for little care.

Hi Cassandra!
I’ve been talking with a few florists and am trying to come up with centerpiece ideas. We are really trying to save on the flowers (I freaked out this weekend because I discovered that we’re definitely going to go over budget!!) and initially I really wanted high centerpieces since the reception is in a ballroom with really high ceilings. However, I’ve seen some receptions where they did a combination of high and low centerpieces and am thinking that that might be a way to save some money. Anyway, I have a couple questions for you: 1) Do you think that having a combo of high and low centerpieces would look okay? and 2) Do you think having centerpieces with willow branches (which I equate with being more outdoorsy) would look odd in a ballroom?
Would love to hear your thoughts.

Dear J,
Okay let’s see. Rather than the height of the centerpieces you might want to consider the complexity and type of flowers you’ll be using. This along with the “rentals” for the actual centerpiece container can really effect the budget (much more than the visual height). You can certainly mix high and low centerpieces. If you are going to do that I suggest that you have two types of centerpieces with very little variation to keep the aesthetics easy on the eye. Willow branches will more than likely be much more expensive. Ask around, of course, but when I worked for a floral designer in NYC branch arrangements were very time consuming and expensive (*not including lighting and adjusting on-site). If you want height think “thriller, spiller and filler”. Three components that build a beautiful arrangement.
Your best bet is to find a vendor that “knows” your style or has examples that you can give your budget and trust she’ll keep that in mind.
